25 out Which type of paint to choose
Those who have painted a house know that there are several types of paints and each of them has a certain function to finish the walls of the house. If you’re wondering what type of paint to choose, check out these tips from architect Leila Dionizios.
Types of ink
There are several types of paint. They can be acrylic, latex, oil, odorless, anti-mold, among others. However, the first feature to consider is whether the ink will be used indoors or outdoors.
Exterior paint can be used indoors without problems. But do not do the opposite because the durability of the painting will be minimal and it will begin to fade and peel much faster.
In addition, there are specific paints for wet areas (kitchens, bathrooms and service areas), which tend to have high durability and can even be used to paint on tiles or ceramics. They can change the look of the room quickly, however the finish is not always perfect, especially if the finish has relief.
Know the main types of paints used in house painting:
Acrylic paint: it is the most common and most used. The water base is made and can be used both indoors and outdoors. It tends to adhere well in masonry as in other types of materials, such as plastering, cement, brick, concrete, among others. It can have gloss, semi-gloss or matte finish, which should be chosen when buying paint.
Latex (or PVS) paint: it is also water based and has only matte finish. It should not be used outdoors, as it tends to fade easily. However, it is cheaper and suitable for painting indoor walls that do not get too much sun or need to be washed frequently.
Oil paint: has a more watery consistency and can be found with matte or glossy finish. It is waterproof and widely used in places that require differentiated finishes, such as wooden doors and windows and furniture.
Epoxy paint: may be water or solvent based. It is a very resistant paint, mainly the actions of the time, so it is very used in external areas. Because it is a difficult product to apply, skilled labor may be required for its use. It can also be used on tiles and floors.
Enamel: can also be water-based or solvent-based. Water-based nails dry faster and have almost no smell. Solvent-based ones take a long time to dry and have strong odor. The enamels are very resistant to the weather and are indicated to finish the wood or metal. It is found in satin, frosted and high gloss finishes and can be colorless or pigmented.
Different types of paint can offer a small variety of finishes. Besides personal taste, it is also important to take into account the properties that each finish can provide in the final look.
Matte finishes, for example, can help disguise minor defects and irregularities in the painted surface. In addition, the matte inks leave the wall with a velvety appearance.
Bright finishes tend to be very sturdy and easy to clean, but they need many layers to look good. Paints with glossy finishes tend to accentuate the imperfections of the walls and ceiling.
The satin and semi-gloss finishes have an intermediate shine and can give a special touch to rooms that are kind of dull. Satin-finished paints are suitable for large circulation areas such as bedrooms and living rooms as they are easy to clean. Semi-gloss finish inks can be used in wet and frequently washed environments, such as kitchens and bathrooms.
